Prostate Problems

As many as 1 in 4 men in America have problems from their prostate. The symptoms involve frequent urinations, a slow urine stream, urinary leakage, infections, inability to urinate and prostate pain. Common problems include prostate enlargement, prostate infections and prostate cancer. Determining the root of the problem and providing appropriate treatment will improve enjoyment of life and prevent future complications.

Urinary troubles can detract from full participation in daily activities and can also pose health risks. Frequent trips to the bathroom are disruptive and frustrating for most patients. Poor and incomplete bladder emptying can lead to painful bladder infections. Furthermore, untreated infections may lead to serious health risks and may require hospitalization. Therefore the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of urinary problems due to the prostate will lead to a better quality of life.

Prostate cancer is the most common cause of cancer in men and second leading cause of cancer-death in men in America. Although widespread, prostate cancer is treatable and very curable. Early diagnosis is important to achieve a cure. Importantly, there are very few symptoms except when prostate cancer has advanced and spread to other areas of the body. Prostate cancer is diagnosed with blood tests, prostate exam and prostate biopsy. Remember, prostate cancer cannot be cured if we don’t know it is there.
